Review of Field-Deployable Tools Applied in Agricultural Testing and Diagnostics
Abstract
This review focusses on new and existing tools, devices, and software that are applicable for use in agricultural lands and pastures for the diagnostics of plant and animal health. Field deployable tools in agriculture are technologies and devices that can be used directly in the field to assist with various farming activities. These tools are designed to improve efficiency, productivity, and sustainability by providing real-time data, automating tasks, and supporting decision-making. Decision support tools are also important to provide the farmers with summarized data on critical farm events to help make on-farm decisions. These field deployable tools are increasingly important in modern agriculture, where data-driven decisions and automation can significantly enhance productivity and sustainability. The selection of appropriate tools depends on the specific needs of the farm, the type of crops or livestock, and the available resources. There are also a number of challenges that need to be addressed when talking about agricultural tools and technologies, including cost, robustness, reliability, and ease of use. This review explains some of these factors related to the development to deployment of agricultural tools and technologies.
